Artist LaShawnda Crowe Storm created a series of bronze wombs and invited eight other women artists, including myself, to transform a womb into a talisman of healing. "Genesis" is my contribution to the Sister Song series and imagines us as flowers connected through time to our ancestors and in the present to each other. The flower is a beginning, a gateway to what is becoming. It says COME...something special is about to happen HERE. Flowers are brief events, punctuations along a continuum spanning our histories and our futures. Flowers bloom and then senesce, but the plant/lineage lives on. And just like a sunflower plant produces a sunflower and not a rose - we reveal and embody our origins.
